WATER CRISIS IS A CLIMATE CRISIS
Water crisis has had a significant impact on people in Nigeria. According to reports from the United Nations, over 60 million Nigerians lack access to clean drinking water. This has led to the outbreak of water-borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, and dysentery, which have resulted in the death of thousands of people.
In rural areas, women and children are often responsible for fetching water, which can take several hours each day, limiting their ability to attend school or engage in other productive activities. Water scarcity also affects agriculture, which is a major source of livelihood for many Nigerians, as farmers are unable to irrigate their crops properly.
In urban areas, the situation is not much better. Many people rely on water vendors or boreholes, which are often contaminated and can lead to water-borne diseases. The cost of buying water from vendors is also high, making it difficult for many people to afford it. Overall, the water crisis in Nigeria has had a significant impact on the health and well-being of the population, as well as on the country’s economic development.
